The staff at the Brooklyn office of Premiere Properties is convened by Blake, sent by the bigwigs Murray and Mitch from the downtown head office. Blake's mentality is cutthroat, he implementing a month long contest among the sales staff, with the highest seller by dollar winning a Cadillac Eldorado, the lowest seller who will be fired. Most of the sales staff are incensed as they feel their fate is largely in the hands of the office manager, John Williamson, who hands out the leads - two per day - at his discretion, many of those leads which the salesmen know are useless. In turn, John will only hand out the coveted Glengarry leads to those that sell. What the salesmen without exception also have against John is that he has never been a salesman - John who probably got his job through some sort of nepotism - and has no idea what it takes to be an effective salesman especially in their business. Ricky Roma is the lead salesman thus far this month, which he has been for quite some time, he who seems well on his way to that Cadillac as he already has his next potential target cum client, James Lingk, on the hook. On the other end of the spectrum is aging Shelley Levene, who once long ago was the top seller, but who seems to have lost his touch largely in his desperation. That desperation is ratcheted up a notch with the contest, Shelley who due to personal circumstances can't afford to lose his job. He believes the best way not to lose his job is to gain some sort of favor with John for better leads. George Aaronow and Dave Moss, two other salesmen near the bottom of sales, discuss other possible measures for themselves not to lose the contest, their discussed tactics which are a bit more illegal. Regardless, Dave tries to protect his own butt at George's expense. By the next morning, the fortunes of all those at the Brooklyn office takes a major turn, but not all those changes may be what they appear on the surface.

Although their lives are affected by the few people they meet along the way, it is the aftermath of one of Lance's weekends home that will forever change the nature of their relationship and their respective outlooks on life.

Since Faye opened her own bakery, the fortunes of the rival businesses rise and fall with whoever wins the annual Lake Shore County Harvest Festival Pumpkin Pie Bake-Off. Since Lydia won for the last three years, Faye's bakery is falling on hard times, so she's counting on winning this year's bake-off and the lucrative contract to service a major hotel for the business to pull through. Making matters worse, an accident forces Faye out of this year's bake-off, leaving the bakery's fortunes in the hands of her daughter, cooking/baking-challenged Casey McArthy, a Wharton business graduate who could have had her choice of finance jobs in New York but chose to come home to Emeryville to help her mother handle all the bakery's financial matters. Learning what happened to Faye, Lydia decides to hand over the bakery's reins at the bake-off to her son, Cordon Bleu-trained chef Sam Harper. Despite Sam having the obvious upper hand over Casey at the bake-off, not all is harmonious between Sam and his mother; Sam wants to expand the business into a full-service restaurant against his conservative mother's wishes. With both their bakery-business fortunes at stake and learning of the other's problems, Casey and Sam, who never had any real issue with each other, decide to help each other achieve their short-term goals: Sam will teach Casey how to bake for the bake-off, while Casey will help Sam with the business proposal to turn the bakery into a full-service restaurant. In the process, they both realize that there can be only one bake-off winner although both their dreams hinge on winning--and that they are falling in love with each other. The answer is to focus on a common goal important to both of them.

I GIVE IT A YEAR (2013)

Directed by: Dan Mazer
Starring: Rose Byrne, Rafe Spall, Anna Faris, Simon Baker, Stephen Merchant, Minnie Driver, Jason Flemyng, Olivia Colman, Jane Asher, Nigel Planer, Clare Higgins, Sue Wallace, Daisy Haggard

97 minutes
(R - strong language, adult themes, adult situations, brief graphic nudity)

PLOT:
After a seven-month long passion-filled courtship, thirty-something Londoners Natasha Redford and Josh Moss get married despite they being mismatched in personality and temperament, something that their closest friends and family members can see - some who predict the marriage won't last a year - even if Nat and Josh themselves don't see it. Nat, a marketing company manager, is more professional and controlled. Josh, a novelist with a current case of writer's block, is more carefree and childlike. Nine months into their marriage, Nat and Josh have their first session with arguably the most distracted marriage counselor in the city, that session which may be the deciding factor in whether they continue in being husband and wife to each other. Their issues over the preceding nine months are told in flashback, and include little idiosyncrasies which annoy the other, and tensions with each's in-laws, beyond the general differences in their personalities. But what may be the biggest threat to a happily-ever-after for them as a couple may be temptations with others to who, at least on paper, each is more well suited. For Nat, that temptation is client Guy Harrap, an American manufacturer who, unknown to Nat, hired her firm solely in his personal attraction to her. For Josh, that temptation is his old girlfriend Chloe, an aide worker who only recently reentered his life after a four-year stint away working in Africa, the two of them in theory never having really broken up in the first place.
